Britney Spears Has Always Been My Favourite; Now She Is An Empowering Example of How One Can Escape Family Violence
I grew up with Britney Spears's music and I was a big fan most of my childhood. She is still a favourite of mine as an adult but I've come to love her more over recent years with the Free Britney movement and now this explosive memoir has made fans get excited once again. She is a music icon, an advocate for mental illness awareness and a powerful figure who has raised awareness of both the atrocity of conservatorships in America and Family Violence.
I have followed Britney's journey in standing up to her abusive father and sister. I have a lot in common with Britney Spears and I've come to admire her more. People have been quite sexist towards her as well with many women even trying to stereotype her as a dumb blonde. She is nothing of the sort and people really don't know her deep down because most of what we see is a carefully orchestrated image designed by the music industry.
There would be parts of her choosing but most of her stage persona has been orchestrated to make her a femme fatale because music record producers think that sells. They even trained her to change her voice. Initially, Britney was trying to get into musical Broadway and she had a similar type of voice to Christina Aguilera and got her to change it to a higher girlier voice because they thought her voice-sounding girlier would sell more records.
It's no secret that Britney Spears is an enigma but she has definitely done a lot to raise awareness of multiple important issues today I am going to focus on how she has raised awareness of family violence. I saw a doco about her once when she was fighting the conservatorship and the way people in her hometown talked about her family was atrocious. They talked about her like her family was always kind to her like fame and fortune is what changed her. They talked as if money and fame corrupt everyone and were all powerless against it which is not true.
Money is a resource and an energy exchange, it can't change people. I think that people who get corrupted by money and fame deep down are superficial and they use the money they get to make them immune to other's judgement of them. The trouble was that Britney's family decided to exploit her instead of truly supporting her. Britney has stood up to family members of hers unapologetically and fought for her freedom. It has been a very public fight. I look forward to reading more about her journey. I think her new book The Woman In Me will resonate deeply.
