Why The Dragonfly?

Hi Dragonfly’s,

You are all probably wondering why I have chosen to call you all (including myself) a dragonfly. Well I wanted to create a beautiful equaliser and empowering symbolism within the Walk Everyday May Event. We have the empowered hearts but I wanted something to call people and myself that is empowering and beautiful. I wanted something positive to associate with the goals of this event that didn’t have the word Violence or Abuse in it. I wanted something that represented where we are heading that didn’t have the negative connotations of what we are escaping. Something that resonates with our strength, beauty and kindness as survivors and healers. We are more than our experiences and I wanted something that resonated with how I feel the more I move forward in my healing journey. It’s empowering to speak up about what has happened to us and we are growing and into the amazing people we were always meant to be.

Some of you are just beginning your journey and some of you are moving beyond the trauma but the Dragonfly unites us on this journey as we can all relate to and support each other. I also think it’s more unique to associate with a creature of strength rather than just a colour. This coming May (2024) I encourage you all to wear and share outfits that embody the energy of the dragonfly.

I also found the spiritual totem meaning of the dragonfly   Dragonfly’s can be a symbol of self that comes with maturity. They can symbolize going past self-created illusions that limit our growth and ability to change.

The Dragonfly has been a symbol of happiness, new beginnings and change for many centuries.  The Dragonfly means hope, change, and love.

Dragonflies are one of the world's fastest flying insects and they represent positive energy, grace, peace, prosperity, maturity, purity, harmony, freedom, changes, adaptation, and patience. Because of these different meanings, people choose to get dragonfly tattoos.

I also welcome you all to email me your dragonfly art and I will include it and credit you in my blog. You can also remain anonymous just let me know. Email your dragonfly art to walkeverydaymay@gmail.com
